I made the mistake of telling KyleC and darc on my squad that if they wanted an interview they'd have to earn it by going 8+ kills in a playoff game. Well KyleC went 9-1 so here his interview. So I put on The Darkness "I Beleive in a Thing Called Love" (on repeat of course) and went after this big beast of a man in an interview that ranged from pedophila, incest, homoeroctism, and yes sex with machines.

Rules, Refs, Bots & Players Part 2

This portion will take you into the depths of the mind of Demishadow on rules. Well not really deep, just a surface scratch but enough to tweak the interest. This gives you a small peek into his seedy little mind and how he views the rules and such.

Section 2: Rules Coordinator's Take
For those of you that don't know the rules are finalized by one man and one man alone. That man's name is demishadow, the Rules Coordinator. He has his own forum for suggestions and is fair and just and listens, but that doesn't mean we can't attack him and by attack I mean interview and ask questions. For those of you that don't know the rules forum (which if you must know is used to discuss rules is here Rules Discussion Forum

Cashew+> Its an IML game and a player is lagging in and out before match and they continue to keep him as a starter. Almost 5 seconds after go is called he lags out again how do you proceed when the team wishes to put him back into game?
Demishadow> Rules based... the player should be burned
Demishadow> There is also a bit of a long standing tradition that the ref often doesnt burn
Demishadow> So, ive seen it go both ways often. I personally burn.. I should follow my own rules ;)
Cashew+> Its a pro game. All 4 slots have been subbed for by one team. They message you wishing to sub a slot after a player who just died so a new pilot can ride out the last life. How do you proceed?
Demishadow> This is a sub after a sub (aka lagsub). As such, the timing after the death isnt important. The player is burned
Cashew+> In an AML game the score is Warbirds 3 and Levi's 4 and the regular match time ends. Which Team wins?
Demishadow> This one I would need to actually check my rules. There has been some change in the last season or so on this... including the removal of a large section of 3v4, 2v3, etc game winning minimum score conditions
Demishadow> Ok, based on the question, it goes into OT
Cashew+> Same teams. Its Overtime now which hopefully you answered and the Warbirds kill a Leviathan 5 seconds before overtime ends. How is the game recorded?
Demishadow> so score is 3 to 4. It becomes 4 to 4 after the kill (assuming im counting ok)... Tie game
Cashew+> A captain requests a sub 1 minute before the 10 minute "Sub Burn Mark." The subbed player continues to play and doesn't spec until after the 10 minute mark has passed. Do you burn the incoming sub?
Demishadow> ooo, ooo, the burning question. This has had 2 different refinements this season due to a "re-shuffling or re-setting" of precideces because of appeals
Demishadow> so, until that is cemented (and yep, im still working on changing it more for next season due to non perfect staff agreement on it)...
Demishadow> in this case, NOW, the player should be burned because he did not satisfy part b of the clarified sub procedure
Cashew+> A pro player lags out and they wish to sub in a new player. What is the correct procedure?
Demishadow> upon request for sub the player is subbed into that slot (assuming player has not played in this game). The player is burned (this is assuming its NOT within 1min of the players last death + they did not ingage + he isnt a sub already)
Cashew+> A player is constantly spamming racials during a match. How do you handle the pilot? He is flying.
Demishadow> I am very strict while reffing. The set of conduct rules say I should be such while reffing my games. I will often not appriciate such antics much. I often give a warning first (or two). If those are not heeded I spec or ban the player...
Demishadow> and ask the team to give me a sub for him.
Cashew+> How long is overtime?
Demishadow> prembots will disagree with me, but it is now 10min

A Look into the Mind of a Foodon

With the most boring name on his squad, Matt stands as one of Fighting Foodons and AML's premier players. I had a chance to sit down and talk a little bit with this highly smooth speaking Subspace pilot. Turns out he's not all long walks on the beach and cuddly puppies. Read further for a view into the world of Bananas in Pajamas (and their many incarnations), AML, and general SS gold

Grinder: Hey Matt, thanks for taking the time to do an interview!

Matt: No problem, I've got to say this is a first for me.

Grinder: First off...Formalities! What is your history in Subspace?

Matt: I started in version 1.17, January of 96 or 97, can't remember. I started in alpha like everyone else, moved to warzone with the name tihajuaninaco, and proceeded to suck for the next 3 or so years there

Grinder: heh

Matt: then I went to pro, and I pretty much sucked there too, but my team was boss so we were beating like BIA and Requiem and shit season 2, after that was Bananas in Pyjamas

Grinder: good ol BiP

Matt: indeed, Dudi Ball and Goofy carried that team…. anyways, after that I decided to try and get a little better at SS, so I went on sabbatical and learned to duel (sort of)…came back with fly-ndeath and subsequently Fighting Foodons, and I think we have a hell of a team.

Matt: Everyone else on the squad is from EG though. I can't believe we're doing so well!

Grinder: What made you choose the name tihajuaninaco?

Matt: it's really bad Spanish…it's supposed to be like 4 words but I didn't know that at the time

Matt: I don't even remember what it means; I just somehow got stuck with that name. I think it was because my good friend bluestone knew me as that name, and I didn't want to disappear

Grinder: I can guess that your current name, Matt, is for obvious reasons?

Matt: yes, that is my name IRL, so it works out. I’ve had someone offer $100 American for this name: P NO MOBY DOLLARS FOR ME BABY!!

Grinder: As you know, AML Playoffs are close at hand. What are your opinions about the current season, and what squads do you see pulling through from now until the end?

Matt: Timeless will be strong. I know one or two of their players. Assent looks good. Happy Mob is good, but the players that weren't hyped much are carrying them. BN could be in it if they tried. Wretcheds? Wait until week 17, then I will comment on Wretcheds.

Grinder: Everyone has a different opinion on Wretcheds, eh

Matt: yes, I will give them credit; no one expected them to do so well

Matt: who else... epik was pretty good, but they don't seem to have a real head to that squad

Grinder: Fear and Ear seem like a good duo

Matt: they are, unfortunately we only played fear out of the two. passplay is a factor for them as well. I just wish I could make it to a match or two…

Grinder: On that note, who are some standout players you see this season?

Matt: ah, there are so many…most who stand out well should not be in this league :(

Matt: Zealot. I know who he is, but I cannot reveal it

Matt: hell, half my squad shouldn't be here either though so I’m not saying shit…. well I already said shit. Fuck.. Fuck you all!

Grinder: Any rookies?

Matt: lol I don't know of but a couple rookies. Sir Dumpling and Hash Bomber are the only rooks I can think of off hand :P

Matt: stool came into his own finally

Grinder: I heard that stool was fearer

Matt: he is, but he's pretty new. Fucking taim is tearing it up too (savage).. Not a rookie but a major factor

Grinder: definitely

Grinder: he's done well with HM

Matt: god I’d have to look at rosters to make a list, I don't want to leave people out... some folk’s just pop to mind

Matt: Faid is really underrated

Grinder: What are some goals that you hope to accomplish in the future, both with yourself and with your squad?

Matt: undefeated all season and win aml, for the squad. We're aiming for the top at this point

Matt: personally, I have some consistency issues to clear up before this squad moves up to iml/pro

Matt: luckily, I do not deny my inadequacies, so I can correct them

Grinder: you see your squad sticking together to do that?

Matt: hell yea, we will move up, whether we win aml or not

Matt: if we lose a shitload, we will stick together.

Matt: I will reveal everyone on the squad at the end of the season

Grinder: I can’t wait!

Matt: yes it will be fun… you will see that most of them are non-quitters, team players

Grinder: What squad has the biggest mouth?

Matt: hah, does Shrimp Daddy count?

Matt: excluding us, I’d say that BN has the biggest mouth, just because the captains talk most of the shit... that can cause the rest of the squad to be viewed with disfavor

Grinder: What player do you think has the biggest mouth?

Matt: hehe, that's a fun one…. hmm

Matt: most of the mouths are in higher leagues

Matt: it's got to be Surrey. HV has calmed down some and is actually being somewhat productive towards the community

Grinder: Surrey being a young'un probably contributes...

Matt: agreed, Surrey is just a walking mouth; once you realize how bad he is it's just funny though

Grinder: What squad are you looking forward to playing the most?

Matt: Wretcheds, definitely. I’ve got enough trashtalk saved up from them to carry me all game.

Matt: they certainly believe they will win.

Grinder: What ship do you fly the most for league matches?

Matt: I fly weasel when I think I can just go out and overpower the other team, or on a first life. If that doesn’t work out, or if some of our finishers aren't present, or if we already have a weasel, I consider myself to be equally good in a warbird.

Matt: not really better in either.

Matt: they require TOTALLY different styles though, which can get me. I learned how to play warbird from blur, so I like to come out aggressive with that

Matt: with the weasel, i'm just painting as many people with weasel bombs as I can, staying back more. Against a competent team, aggressive weasels WILL fail unless you're one of the best.

Grinder: good strategy

Grinder: Well…. time for some predictions!

Matt: skyrakers cause they can only show 2-3 people, taking up a spot for more active teams (hopefully)
