MRBots and proper usage
General News by Demishadow on November 30, 2004 at 04:51 PM

As people have noticed... MRbots do have commands that help a prac-captain to manage their set of players. These were used properly for a good long time so I do know people are able to responsibly use them.

However it seems to be the new "cool dude" thing to abuse these. So, ill say it once:
- Dont go and ban your whole fucking team to end the prac faster after your skill-less ass chokes. Sheesh.
- When your skill-less ass chokes, dont go and kick one of your own players to sub into their slot.

!ban and !kick are supposed to be used to help prevent people you dont want on your team. They arent to be used to disturb the game (or the flow of the game). They arent to be used to give you more playing time at expense of players already participating in the prac.

People will get bot bans... or worse (if they have a pattern of such behavior). Such things may very well impact your abilities to use bots in games/events/etc.

(Likewise, its good to ask if people want you to sub.. before jumping in)

I wonder how some of you guys ever managed to hold a practice before the invention of SS bots. If in doubt about something... think back to those years.

Pro League Playoffs
General News by Nelson on November 28, 2004 at 07:53 PM

Pro will be entering makeup round this coming weekend. Congratulation to the top 7 squads (excluding Starseed) who have already clinched a playoffs spot. The top 4 teams have already been decided, while the bottom 4 will be decided this coming weekend.

Tyranny and EGO will be battling for the last playoff spot this weekend. If Tyranny loses to Starseed and EGO defeats Symphony, EGO will move into the last playoffs spot.

Note that starseed can also still lose its playoffs spot if they lose their makeup game to MMA and also lose their postponed game to Tyranny. The makeup game will be reffed from 6-4 Starseed with 15 minutes remaining.

If you don't know the playoffs format already, it is posted on the link on the left, but here it is again:

Top 8 teams make pro. 1v8, 2v7, 3v6, 4v5. Seedings are determined by W/L, h2h then +/-. Semi's are now best of 3 and as always, the probowl will also be best of 3.

Good luck to those teams fighting for playoff seeding and or trying to gain a playoffs spot.

Hybrid: Your own bot development!
General News by Demishadow on November 24, 2004 at 12:29 PM

So youve got a great game idea that weve been too busy to implement, or couldnt get anyone interested, or perhaps girls just dont like you...

Whatever the reason, we have a solution:

Hybrid has now been released to the public and what better way to test it, than to let the entire population develop bots for whatever they see fit (Within zone rules, of course). Thats right! Make your own bot to do whatever you want -- your own arena, your own rules.

Interested? Heres how you get started:
1) Contact Cerium to get your name on his list of people to send the core to once released. (In Game: Cerium/Cerium+, Email: Cerium x2productions.net)
2) Head over to java.sun.com and read some of the java tutorials, as well as downloading the java runtimes.
3) Wait next to your email box for a 500-700kb package. Unwrap, enjoy.
- And/Or look at http://masterrater.shanky.com/hybrid/

If you have any questions, feel free to post them here, contact me in game, or bug the hell out of me via email.

-----

I must say it looks damned impressive. Good work Cerium and Co.

Rulebook
General News by Demishadow on November 18, 2004 at 04:47 PM

The rulebook has some minor changes to clarify how it interacts with games reffed by MRBots. Most of this has been expressed through posts and (to some degree) forums. However its far past time where it should be put there.

Just look at anything that is colored red. The original text is still there as these points will be worked directly into the rules themselves at some later date.

The staff realizes that there is atleast one outstanding appeal right now. The state of the rulebook and whatever posts before this change is ONLY on what they are being considered. So, we are not trying to rewrite history... but to fix some things before next round.

AML Playoff Format
AML News by Mizerie on November 15, 2004 at 05:03 PM

First I would like to apologize for the significant delay in relaying the final version of our playoffs to the public, this was not the intention rather Demishadow had some serious issues arise and was able to participate in game as much as he had previously planned. I have worked hard to fill the gaps and I have enjoyed working with the AML community.
I will do my best to make this as clear as possible, and please ask questions if you have any. After the regular season each team will participate in 3 ladder/seeding rounds which will be immediately followed by the playoffs. A quick outline of the seeding rounds....

Also avalible in the AML Forum here

- In the first round you will be playing against the team in the opposite divsion that is ranked the same as you.
Balder _______________ Thor
#1 team ____ VS ____ #1 team
#2 team ____ VS ____ #2 team
#3 team ____ VS ____ #3 team
#4 team ____ VS ____ #4 team
#5 team ____ VS ____ #5 team
etc...
If you win you get bumped up one position, if you loose you are bumped down. So lets say for example this is how the first round ends:
Balder ___________________ Thor
#1 teamA ____ BEAT ____ #1 teamB
#2 teamA ____ BEAT ____ #2 teamB
#3 teamA __ LOST TO ___ #3 teamB
#4 teamA ____ BEAT ____ #4 teamB
#5 teamA __ LOST TO ___ #5 teamB
#6 teamA __ LOST TO ___ #6 teamB
#7 teamA __ LOST TO ___ #7 teamB
#8 teamA ____ BEAT ____ #8 teamB

Given the results of round 1 you now throw out Divisions and deal strickly with rankings, bear with me on this step its long:
#1 teamA RETAINS a #1 rank
#1 teamB DROPS to a #2 rank
-
#2 teamA GOES UP to a #1 rank
#2 teamB DROPS to a #3 rank
-
#3 teamA DROPS to a #4 rank
#3 teamB GOES UP to a #2 rank.
-
etc... displaying in colums works best
1 1 ========> 1 2
2 2 ========> 1 3
3 3 ========> 4 2
4 4 ===turns==> 3 5
5 5 ===into===> 6 4
6 6 ========> 7 5
7 7 ========> 6 8
8 8 ========> 7 9
Now that we have the rankings from the results of round 1 we can schedule for round 2. Simply pair up the 1's so that those teams play each other. Pair up the 2's to play each other, so on and so on. We repeat this for round 2 and 3 of the ladder/seeding rounds.
NOTE: In the example teams ranked 8,9 after r1 are now unable to make playoffs mathematically. Such will also happen after r2 and r3.
NOTE: Ballistics is excluded from playing the above rounds.

Cross divisional matches are guaranteed for the first round and probable for the other 2 rounds, this is why we ignore divisions during these rounds.
After the 3 ladder/seeding rounds the teams are ranked 1-10 based on -
- Rank after the ladder/seeding rounds
- Win/Loss
- Head to Head
- Differential

the TOP 10 TEAMS go to playoffs!
and yes it could be 6 teams from one division and 4 teams from the other. This is the effect that the balancing rounds have.

the playoff bracket can be seen in the Premier League AML Forum here
