Minor Tweaks

Jav weapon costs returned to normal but given 1 extra rocket.
Levi max mines now set to 2.

Premier Reloaded
General News by Ace on November 28, 2003 at 05:56 AM

What you are about to experience is the is the sum of a remainder of an unbalanced equation inherent to the programming of Premier. This is the eventuality of an anomaly, which despite our sincerest efforts, have been unable to eliminate from what is otherwise a harmony of mathematical precision. While it remains a burden assiduously avoided, it is not unexpected, and thus not beyond a measure of control. Which has led you, inexorably, here.

League has evolved in such a way as to seriously harm the balance at the mid to high skill levels. Emphasis on teamwork has ensured Warbird popularity but has nearly extincted all but the most powerful offensive ship (weasel).

A theory for maximum depth in this zone is to have birds as the majority/backbone ship while having a solid balance of support ships, each having a very distinct/unique/fun purpose to add more depth to the game.

With this in mind we are testing the following setting changes during the long break (to be voted on by team captains before the start of next season):

Warbird: Balanced Assault/Defense. No change.
Javelin: Defensive Lancer. Cheaper bullets/bombs (15/275), 1 extra thor.
Spider: Ambush. Slightly cheaper stealth (275) and all ships have increased xradar cost (150).
Leviathan: Defensive Bomber. BombSee and 2 extra mines
Terrier: Assault Gunfighter. Cheap xradar (10), slightly faster rotation (260), back up to normal bullet cost/delay.
Weasel: Assault Freezer. No change
Lancaster: Defensive Angler. Starts w/ a Wall
Shark: Close-range Assault. Shark 2.1: Same fast bulletfire rate, L1 Bombs, upgrade to same thrust/rotation as Warbird.

An overview of all these changes can be found here: Settings.

Old settings can be found here.

We will be paying close attention to player feedback on the forums and in the news comments. Thanks to all who take the time to participate in discussion.

Thanks... and a note on rules and security
General News by Demishadow on November 26, 2003 at 09:19 AM

Well now the season is over the staff would like to thank a number of people:
- Refs, without you guys this show would have no hope of happening. They are definitly premier leagues foundation.
- Disco Diva, although your SM has now been replaced it surved us faithfully for many seasons. This should definitly be recognized!
- My PremDev peons ;) Thanks for your effort, MR is great and only looks to be greater. Some of the bot stuf comming online has given us more possibilities then ever before. Sorry for some of the bitching you guys have had to put up with, but who truelly can say things have not improved? Good job done.
- Players... well, without you guys there is no purpose to this league. It has been our priviledge as a league to put in the hundreds of hours required in a season!
- Ok, and from me... I would like to thank the staff. It is a generally thankless job with a great deal of annoyance... but I appriciate all the effort each one of you guys put in.

Rules:
Once I get over this month of hell my focus will return to the rules. I now have Chicka as a helper so hopefully things will get done this time before actual preseason starts. The rulebook got a more major rework last season and thus should a bit more stable this offseason. As it gets into December ill do another post about it and my ideas for direction. However if you want to get a start on rules or have a big issue with em please post on the rules forum.

Securty:
Another post will be comming to help explain what we require and how we want it. Hopefully through the use of MR and bots this will be made easier.

Demishadow.

Shark 2.0
General News by Ace on November 25, 2003 at 07:46 AM

Premier League will be taking advantage of the extended break to test some changes.

The first and probably largest change we will test is we've finally filled the nerfed #8 ship slot.

The new Nightshark (close range support ship) settings are global right now. A test graphic (due to popular demand) can be found in 4v4prac1. The new settings for this ship are as follows:

1> Same thrust/rotation as pre-nerfed shark. Those being 18/280. Same thrust as slow ships, second fastest rotation.

2> No cloak. The spider is unique in this ability now, as it should be.

3> Fastest bullet fire rate. Has a payload delivery second only to weasels' bomb+bullet combo.

4> Can see bombs on radar (shark sonar). High res players may now fear 640x480 plebes.
---------------------------------

The test phase will last at least until the next season begins at which time we will most likely get a captains vote on the changes.

Feedback we are specifically interested in: is it overpowered, and if so, why? do you prefer the new graphic (in 4v4prac1) or the old graphic?

Also under consideration for this new shark: L1 bombs but cheaper stealth.

Disturbing games
General News by Demishadow on November 21, 2003 at 10:49 AM

The last 2 finals have both had a case where a player has disturbed the game. In both cases the player entered into a ship (for a short time period) before jumping to spec.

With the bots as they are, it is difficult to prevent people from being able to do this. So its up to us all to make sure it doesnt happen. We run many games throughout the season however with very few such problems... so its not like this is something difficult to comprehend :)

Anyone found spamming or disturbing games will be punished. The type of offense, the type of game its done in will, and the players past history will be the major factors on deciding punishments. Needless to say, if we see this happen again in the IML finals the punishment will be harsh.

The staff, the spectators and definitly the participants all want to play the game without someone fucking it up in some way for their own ideas of fun.

Wolf.

Coast is Clear
General News by Ace on November 20, 2003 at 02:58 AM

All the forms should be working again and the links to email the staff should all have the new and correct address.

A couple squads have sent in emails about being added to the waiting list, we have put you on the list, we got your emails, thank you. We'll know more once we get confirmations from all returning squads.

Arrrgh
General News by Ace on November 19, 2003 at 02:03 PM

My host installed a buggy update and the new email system we started using last week crapped out 3 days ago. If you have sent any emails to admin@ssleague.net or filled out any forms in the past 3 days they are gone and we did not get them.

For now please just send the appropriate email to ace@subspacechaos.com and I'll make sure it gets where it needs to go.

IML Championships - Nightwatch vs. Redshift
IML News by Covert Agent on November 17, 2003 at 04:10 AM

For those that missed the IML Semi-finals, Nightwatch was able to hold on to an upset win against Money 11-8. Redshift was also able to squeak out a win against Dissent 8-4. Both teams will now play a best 2 out of 3 series in the IML championships next Sunday. Don't miss it.

Unfortunate news on the security front
General News by Demishadow on November 15, 2003 at 04:57 PM

As some know all to well some people were banned earlier this season for dbl squadding. Unfortunately today I shall add to this list.

Faded/Scepter
Fallacious/Heptik/Puddington
BoP AML/IML (certain individuals)

Each of these cases have involved multiple IP/etc matches along with comments from multiple capts and other individuals if possible.

Now, the hard one... BoP AML/IML. Shortly after BoP AML dropped from aml it came to our attention that there were some odd matches between some BoP AML and BoP IML names. Through the next long time we have tried to figure out the story behind these matches (and some were adaquately explained)... however there are still things that we couldnt really explain properly. The three main people that are unaccounted for are: Sumi/Sacred Remedy(existing player) , Bad Logo/Daitao(alias) , and Disorientation/Psomas(alias)).

In the next while the exact punishments for everyone listed will be finalized. Exact punishments will be judged on how solid the evidence is and the level of abuse of the system. However we can say that Sumi will not be allowed to captain a squad in premier league and as such BoP's next captain will have to have a meeting with the staff to figure out the conditions in which the squad can remain in premier league (if they so choose).

It is unfortunate that so many have chosen to dbl squad this season. Let this be a warning that I will not tollerate any double squadding in the future and next season I will be more strict and not as willing to let harder cases slip by. We will be watching all the time and we will be willing to give harsh penalties.

Before next season approaches we will list steps that EVERYONE must follow if they have a brother/etc. This future process must be done by everyone who has a reason to share computers regardless of how many times you have told us the information before.

Demishadow.

Need Your Help
General News by Ace on November 11, 2003 at 12:45 PM

Due to the high spec population the refs for playoff and finals matches often can't log spec chat due to the amount of "spam". As we all know, logs for matches are sometimes fun to read, but only with spec chat logged. So, if you can, please log all matches that you can to help us out. If you don't we will most likely have log holes in masterrater.

If you have a complete log for a match (and see that we don't have one in masterrater) please use this program to edit out everything except bot messages, pub chat, and spec chat and then send it to ace@subspacechaos.com cc'ed to premierlogs@yahoo.com. Do not send a log that does not have the entire match with all bot messages. Submissions will be credited in MR. Thank you.

AML - Conference Finals and other news
AML News by Tin Cup on November 10, 2003 at 06:29 PM

We were witnesses of great matches in the AML Conference Finals, where squad Assent emerged as victors against Liquid Inc. (11-4 and 12-3), and Tweaked played two awesome matches against FIghting Foodons (12-4 and 11-6).
Next weekend will reveal the true power of AML, and finally tell us who will proudly carry the valuable title - AML Champions!

Furthermore, all captains of AML squads will be contacted to confirm / deny their interest about the next season if they didn't do so already, and staff will try to organize things as quick as possible.
There were some complaints about the AML season and AML playoff format, so AML captains and community will be the important role of determining the structure and format for the next season.
In the meantime, few volunteers will try to organize SS World Cup, so our community will have another big event during the off season.
